Magnitude 7.0 Earthquake hits Bali

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake hits Bali, struck deep in the sea north of Bali and Lombok islands early on Tuesday 29th AUGUST 2023. The quake was confirmed by multiple agencies. It forced residents run out of homes and other buildings. The epicentre of this earth quake was 203 km (126 miles) north of Mataram and it was very deep at 516 km below the Earth’s surface.

Magnitude 7.0 Earthquake hits Bali

The Australian, Indonesian and US geological agencies listed the magnitude at 7.0 to 7.1, with no threat of a tsunami. The quake was felt just before 4 a.m. (2000 GMT) across coastal areas in Bali and Lombok. It was followed by another two quakes of magnitude 6.1 and 6.5, according to the Indonesian geological agency.

Guests at multiple hotels across Bali ran out of their rooms after feeling the tremor for a few seconds. Several people came out on the streets fearing their lives. Till now there were no reports of damage to any buildings.
